Manifestations Installation
Install at a Primary School in London
Safety measures such as manifestations are a legal requirement as per the 2000 Building Regulations on certain sized glass, usually floor to ceiling panels – to ensure they’re visible which prevents potential accidents. Regulations require you to ensure that the markings are of a specific size, located on certain locations of the glass and must provide contrast with the background. However, there are no requirements as to what design you have to adhere too, this leaves the creative possibilities endless.
Glass manifestations don’t necessarily have to be adhered to for every window or door within a public building. This is usually because of their size, shape or position – if a significant risk isn’t apparent to the public. Full height glass in windows, partitions and doors require glass manifestation to make sure that it is apparent which helps to prevent potential accidents. The Building Regulations 2000 Part M states that glass entrance doors and glass screens will satisfy requirement M1 or M2 if:
a) They are clearly defined with glass manifestations on the glass at two levels, between 850mm and 1000mm and between 1400mm and 1600mm above the floor, contrasting visually with the background seen through the glass (both inside and out) in all lighting conditions.
b) Manifestations takes the form of logo or sign at least 150mm high (repeated if on a glazed screen), or a decorative feature such as broken lines or continuous bands, at least 50mm high).
